The Asherah Foundation’s 2021 Recap

For many people 2021 was a year that held many challenges, yet people still found reasons to be joyful and full of hope. The continued events of the COVID-19 pandemic have changed our world in astronomical ways, but one truth stays the same: we are all going through this together. The Asherah Foundation was born from the desire to support women struggling to pursue higher education and to remind them that they aren’t alone on their journey. As we step into the new year as an organization, eager for more connection and opportunities to support our recipients and to spread Asherah’s message, we want to look back on 2021 and all we have accomplished as an organization.

2021 in Review

Recipients

  • We received 88 scholarship applications from women around the world.

  • Scholarship recipient Dr. Maklin Al-Ahmadi graduated receiving her PhD in Economics from the Institute for Arab Research and Studies in Egypt.

Progress of our Global Giving Projects

  • Our project “Help Maryline and Maklin Graduate” was fully funded allowing us to financially support both women as they worked to finish their degrees.

  • Our Project “Give Thalia, Sahra, and Noura a Chance at Education” was fully funded helping support the dreams of these three women from Burundi, Yemeni, and Uganda who were struggling to finance their studies.

  • For our newest project, “Help Women Access Education During the Pandemic”, we have raised about 75% of our goal. We hope you will consider supporting this project to help bring relief to Maryline, Jackline, and Evelyne during these difficult times. Every dollar counts!

We sincerely thank every donor for their generosity this past year. Every dollar we received went toward aiding our scholarship recipients and advancing them further toward their education goals.

In the spirit of making New Year’s resolutions for 2022, our Founder Heather MacCleoud, hopes to “double the donations we receive so we can double the number of women we can support! This is even more important as the impacts from COVID-19 continue to disproportionately impact women - forcing them out of the workforce, increasing their care-taking work without adequate compensation, and challenging their access to education.”

The start of a new year holds so much promise and hope. We here at the Asherah Foundation are ready to work hard to see lives changed. Will you join us?
